As with most other things mentioned, tweaking presets or the levels of voice versus bass can help, but nothing fully solves that issue. For a deeper dive into the audio quality, I’d recommending checking out this review from TechHive. What’s really intriguing about the new system is that it’ll only cost $599 when it’s released in August this year. Although cheaper systems exist, with Polk’s reputation for quality audio, the MagniFi Max might end up being one of the best-sounding and decently affordable surround sound setups. The MagniFi Max SR has an optical HDMI cable that supports IR TV remotes from Samsung, LG, Sony, and Vizio.

I have aPolk Audio MagniFi Mini Home Theater Sound Bar Systemwhich is supposed to work with Google Home. Running the Google Home app on smartphone does not find a device. That is the only think I can think of that might be the problem. I have tried to make sure everything is on the same home network ... I fixed this problem by plugging the soundbar directly into the router with an ethernet cord. Then I started the Google Home app on my phone and it set up the speaker immediately with no problems.

As you’d probably expect, sound quality sounds best in the place you’ll most likely want to sit, on the couch, centered in front of the TV/soundbar from a bit of distance away. While sound quality is pleasing in that sweet spot, it suffers just a little bit if you’re off to the sides by a fair bit. That’s something I noticed when I used the soundbar for music while sitting at my desk, which is off to the left of the soundbar. Surround sound would likely help with that, but that’s something you’ll have to fork over an additional $200 for. Polk Audio is very hush hush about the features of their new smart speaker that will be available just in time for summer for $199. With an announcement of their new smart speaker only a month away from the shipping date everything better be ready to go! The new smart speaker will be called the Polk Assist and will feature the Google Assistant built in for hands-free help around the house, music streaming and control of your smart home devices.

Polk Signa S3 soundbar brings Google Assistant, Chromecast for $250
The big sell for the Polk Assist is that it has Google Assistant built in. This means not only can it control all aspects of the speaker, but it does everything the Google Home can do, such as controlling any other compatible smart home products you have at home. When logging into school computers, each student will use their mypolkschools account. The Polk Assist brings variety to the smart speaker market, adding another brand to the mix and giving you another choice when it comes to selecting a smart speaker.

I am initiating the playing of the music via the Google Hub and music plays on all of the Nest Minis, the Hub and my Chromecast, just not the Polk. First impressions suggest that it's a step-up from your basic Google Home speaker, but then you'd expect that as it costs a little more too. We've been impressed with some other GA speakers - like the Panasonic GA10 for example - and as more of these speakers come to market some of the decisions will simply come down to which design you prefer.
The soundbar handles dialogue very well, and the four presets — Movie, Music, Sports, and Night — work well for their intended use cases. Movie brings out the details and pumps up the bass, giving action movies more impact. Music, meanwhile, leaves things in a flatter and more natural space.

Polk MagniFi 2 doesn’t have microphones on its own, but a nearby Google Home Mini or similar device can send audio to it, and it can even be included in speaker groups. The saving grace is Polk’s virtualized 3D mode, activated with a quick press on the remote. It’s not nearly as nice as a true 5.1 speaker setup, but the effect is better than I expected. Sounds effects like cars passing by or Falcon flying past in the opening of that series’ finale genuinely do sound like they’re coming from different parts of the room. It only ever falls flat when the effect becomes too emphasized.
We serve over 7,800 students across eleven schools throughout the Polk County community. This includes two high schools, one college and career academy, two middle schools, and six elementary schools. All is good as far as being a part of my Google Home "network" which consists of 3 Google nest Minis, one Chromecast, and a Google nest hub. The Polk controls my lights perfectly, so all is good there, and I appear to have successfully added the Polk to my speaker group. However, music refuses to play on the Polk when I cast the music to my "all speakers" group.

Watching the opening to In The Heights, for example, the 3D effect took away from the experience rather than adding to it, making some details hard to hear clearly. You may want to check out the new Polk Assist with Google smart technology and a Chromecast built in! With hands free control and easy integration with other Chromecast and Polk home theater devices this new assistant may be just what you're looking for. Audioholics has seen some revolutionary products from Polk Audio recently including the MagniFi Mini and MagniFi Max, both of which will work with the Polk Assist. If the Assist is anything like Polk Audio's recent soundbars than it should be extremely easy to setup and use.
The idea behind the Assist is to take all the ingenuity of the Google Home speaker, but give it better sound. The Home is a great product with great capabilities, but anyone who has heard one will know it's not exactly going to get the party started when you start playing music through it. With one 3.5" driver and a 1" tweeter the sound should be a big step up from the Google Home.

What we will say is that our experience with Alexa - which is built into Polk's Command Bar - gave a much better response in demos. Two very different songs but good testers for a speaker. When the drums in Sound of Silence kicked in, we weren't exactly blown away by the Assist's performance. It wasn't terrible and we didn't want to immediately stop listening, but we expected a little more bass. The speaker was placed in a very large room and with no solid surface behind it, so we'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now. Needs to review the security of your connection before proceeding.
The sleek design also means it’ll fit neatly under many TVs, though mostly ones on the larger side given the over 37 inches in width. There are physical buttons along the top of the soundbar for power, input, volume, and a dedicated button to activate Bluetooth pairing. The remote feels nice in the hand, but the all-rubber front tends to collect a lot of dust that’s hard to clean off if you leave it alone for too long.
